That dress really is beautiful (and this is coming from someone who has yet to buy Kirsten ANYTHING since circa 1991). Not a bad deal at all! And as for the lamp, assuming you were driving, it wouldn't've been worth driving all across town to try to find one for $10 cheaper; you would've spent that much in gas and wear-and-tear on your car. So you did fine there too.
(It's odd, though; *I* bought a lamp today too! Mine did go under your magic number, but I was lucky, and unless you wanted a simple torchiere, you don't need to envy me. )

That dress that you bought for Josefina is absolutely gorgeous. I would have bought it too!
I totally understand about spending money that you never intended to. I did the same this week. I decided to try another crack at ebay. I fell in love with this gorgeous gold borcade gown for Felicity. I bid on it, a bid close to the starting bid price, thinking that there was no way I was going to win such a beautiful dress. It turned out I was the only bidder. I was thrilled, but I also had to shell out 40 bucks. I got the dress today and it was soooo worth it. The detail on the dress is exquisite, everything down to the pinner cap and choker is top rate, so now I am happy with my new dress. Here is a link to it. (You might have to scroll down once it pops up)

Anyway I hope you get your Josefina soon. She will be well dressed.

Kenshinchan - the one I wanted from HD was a torchiere, but they were out. I would have been happy to get a torchiere, except I couldn't for the life of me find one to match my apartment! My apartment is decorated "shipwreck chic," which means a bunch of antique-y type stuff I collected from various thriftstores. Ergo, most modern torchieres just don't mix--which kind of stinks, actually. I would have much preferred to pay less .
Megadeth - that dress is adorable! It reminds me of one I got from petressewing box for Christmas. Very cute!

I say that as long as you pay bills first, other indulgences are neccesary on occasion as they make you a happier person!
